About me...
Hello! Thank you for visiting this website. I am a graduate student at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia, and a prospective elementary teacher. I obtained a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences in 1998 from the University of Florida. Since then I have worked in the field of public health, specifically as a nutrition educator for families with infants and young children, and even more challenging, I became a mom. I enjoyed my work in public health, but realized over time that I needed a change and what I truly enjoyed was teaching children. Watching my child grow and develop a love of learning has been my greatest pleasure. My goal as a teacher is to guide other children to develop this same love of learning. I believe that learning should be fun. I've developed this website as a resource for teachers to integrate the arts in a Social Studies unit; specifically, a first grade unit focusing upon the life and contributions of Benjamin Franklin. This correlates with the Georgia Performance Standards for Social Studies in first grade. The goal of integrating various art forms within this instructional unit is for students to gain a greater understanding of the topic through experiential learning; they will not only be told about Benjamin Franklin, they will draw, dance, act, and sing as they gain understanding of his life and how it compares to their own.
